Flash Lite 3 Launched this Week

Chris Crum By: Chris Crum

This week Adobe announced the availability of Adobe Flash Lite 3, which now supports Adobe Flash Player compatible video and enables the delivery of dynamic Web content on mobile devices.

It also allows mobile device manufacturers, operators and content providers to differentiate their offerings by giving users the ability to watch Flash Player compatible video, the world’s most popular video format, and browse Flash enabled Web sites when integrated with a mobile Web browser.

Adobe expects over a billion Flash enabled devices to be available by the year 2010. NTT DoCoMo and Nokia have both already committed to deliver Flash Lite 3 enabled devices.

According to Adobe, Flash Lite 3 more closely replicates the desktop experience delivered by Adobe Flash Player giving mobile users the freedom to access content whenever and wherever they want, while efficient resource management capabilities significantly improve and optimize performance for mobile devices.

“With Flash Lite 3 and its support for video, we’ve passed a major milestone in bringing a desktop experience to mobile and transforming the wireless industry,” said Al Ramadan, senior vice president for Mobile and Devices at Adobe.

“Today, mobile users experience amazing Flash based user interfaces and applications with handsets like the LG Prada, the LG Chocolate or the Samsung D900,” he added. “With Flash Lite 3, tomorrow’s devices will offer even richer, more engaging experiences.”

Adobe Flash Lite runs on the following platforms:

- S60 on Symbian OS, second and third edition,

- Qualcomm® BREW® 2.x/3.x

- Microsoft® Windows® Mobile® 5,

Of course it also runs on embedded operating systems on a variety of OEM platforms.
